Heritage Quay Merchants Association
After being approached by the Heritage Quay Merchants Association through Nkenge Drew (our long time partner and Graphic Designer) to create a website for Antigua’s premier duty free shopping complex (Heritage Quay), we teamed up to handle its development.
The first month and a half of the project was spent solely on research and planning. Outside of one on one sessions with all of the store owners and some visitors to the quay, photo documentation (N'kenge Drew), etc. we made sure to include some ethnography in our research plan to get a better understanding of who we were designing the site for. Sure an obvious site visitor would be the web/desktop user, but what about the hundreds of cruise ship visitors who pass through the Quay daily? How could we make the site not only appealing to them, but also accessible? Two core focuses then came out of these questions: 1) making sure the site has an enriched mobile user experience that is directly comparable to the desktop version, and 2) providing an avenue for visitors of the Quay to be able to access the site for free with their mobile devices from anywhere within the Quay; the Heritage Quay Air Network. Some of the key features of the final site include: an interactive store map of the Quay with brand and live category filters, filterable store directory and promotions listings, and a content management system for each store to make changes to their store pages and ads on the fly. The site was build using an array of tools including a custom PHP framework (Wadadli Framework) and the typical PHP development stack.
